Instructions for completing the questionnaire:
Click here and the questionnaire will open up as a file.
Save the file to your computer and then you will be able to complete it or if you prefer as I do, print it off and read it at your leisure.
The purposes:
Firstly it is an opportunity for you to do your own research, taking yourself on a rigorous inquiry, into what you really want in your own dream sailing home.
Secondly it is for us at ‘Lifestyle-Sailing’ an opportunity to gather information (if you choose to communicate with us) on what you and others are looking for in a state-of-the-art sailing home.
Not only are Wilma and I in the process of designing our own sailing home, but we are also researching the feasibility of collectively producing sailing boats.
The assumptions:
The questionnaire has been constructed to bring together two quite distinct features of living aboard a boat:
1. The experience of sailing and being on the sea.
2. The experience of living and being in your own home.
This questionnaire is based on the assumption that we all have our own unique preferences for how we like to live, do stuff and experience our world. Rather than have you try and fit your lifestyle into existing boats, we invite you to embrace the idea that you can have your own boat, built to serve your specific living needs, if you first take the time to dream it up in your own mind.
We also assume that knowing what you truly want is not obvious for the very reason that you do it everyday and hence take your living style for granted. It takes a concerted inquiry into how you go about your daily life in order to understand how to make living on a boat really work for you. Without taking the time to think about your own situation, you end up with the default option of other people’s (e.g. naval architects) thinking and historical preferences. Like Wilma in her story, I hope you have got the sense that you too might want something that is different from what is on offer.
