The Galley »

I love thinking about how a great galley could look like. I love cooking and as a consequence I will spend a lot of time in the galley. As I already spend a lot of time in the kitchen at home I know what I want and what I don’t want. I have seen what I don’t want on plenty of boats; therefore I was so delighted to see a kitchen on Crusoe that did work. Here are some pictures to demonstrate what I am on about.

What I learnt from designing our kitchen at home »

Designing a people friendly sailing boat is an art that needs refining and requires time and attention. Therefore designing one can be called a process, which I am happily embarking on. It is fun and the end result will be fantastic to live on.  
And I have started the process with designing my kitchen at home.
What has designing a kitchen to do with a boat? In my case a lot!

Pilot house and raised Saloons »


It looks romantic sitting on deck like this photo, being part of the elements, with no shelter. And on this holiday trip when we sailed this boat across the Aussie Bight it was fun, but if this would be a live aboard boat John would be sailing alone.
For me an open cockpit is like a convertible, fun to have for sunny days but only when you have a normal car at your disposable for everyday life.
I have sailed mostly on boats which have a dodger over the cockpit and if you were lucky you had a seat under the dodger. If not, you were exposed and mostly that meant being cold and/or wet.
